(EN) RECTO VERSO is a new series of knitted plaids designed within the playful and abstract universe of Leda Devoldere. Are the plaids some kind of sailboat? Is it an abstract tent? For Leda, it could all be possible. The series are a reminder of childhood: a time when you could transform any object into something else simply because of your imagination. The RECTO VERSO plaids bring color and cheerfulness into your home as the days get colder and darker.
The name RECTO VERSO refers to the design that continues on both the front and back sides. In jacquard knitting typically only the front side is used. In this case, the back side forms a speckled pattern, a combination of the three colors on the front side. With Recto verso, Leda deliberately incorporated this speckled color into the design process, creating the illusion of the plaid having four colors. By working in this way for the first time, Leda could construct a composition of lines on both the front and back sides. When the blanket is used and folded, it creates a playful interplay of both sides, resulting in a playful game of lines.
(NL) RECTO VERSO, een nieuwe serie gebreide dekens die ontworpen zijn binnen het speelse universum van Leda Devoldere. Zijn de dekens een knipoog naar een zeilboot? Is het een abstract tentje? Voor Leda kan het allemaal. Het is een herinnering aan de kindertijd. Een tijd waarin je eender welk object kan transformeren naar iets anders omwille van je fantasierijke kijk op de wereld. De RECTO VERSO dekens brengen kleur en vrolijkheid in huis terwijl de dagen kouder en donkerder worden.
Bij een jacquard (de breitechniek die hier gebruikt werd) wordt doorgaans enkel de voorzijde gebruikt. De achterzijde vormt in dat geval een spikkelvormige kleur: een combinatie van de 3 kleuren op de voorzijde. Bij recto verso heeft Leda deze spikkelkleur bewust in het ontwerpproces meegenomen waardoor de illusie ontstaat dat het deken 4 kleuren heeft. Een compositie van lijnen op de voor- en achterkant. Door het deken te gebruiken en te plooien ontstaat er een combinatie van de beide kanten die een speels lijnenspel geven als resultaat.
